The SAG Awards for 2014 are in the can. It’s a wrap! The 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are over and now all that remains is waiting for the Olympics to proceed, NASCAR to do it’s annual great race, The Daytona 500, then on March 2nd – let’s get to the Academy Awards!
American Hustle received best cast award. In both the Best Male Actor role and the Best Supporting Male Actor role, both went to the movie “Dallas Buyers Club”. Matthew McConaughey was on the radar because of the Golden Globes and because Hollywood has always had an affection towards social issues; ie: “Philadelphia” with Tom Hanks, “The Help” with Octavia Spencer and the list goes on. Despite that, Oprah Winfrey and Forrest Whitaker were denied an award even though the production, releasing company and Oprah wanted to influence the voters by intense promotion of the DVD, the film received a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. For the women, Cate Blanchett for “Blue Jasmine” and Lupita Nyong’o for “12 Years a Slave” for Best Female actor and Best Supporting Female Actor respectively.
The award show moved right along. The show did have bright spots as Rita Moreno received the Life Time Achievement Award (much deserved) and Bryan Cranston’s acceptance speech for winning Television’s Best Male Actor role in “Breaking Bad” mentioning the “crappy jobs” he’s had was a wonderful piece of genuine-ness.
